Washington Lawyers for the Arts appoints Jennifer Krebs as Executive Director

Krebs immediately replaces Cal Kinnear; New initiatives set for 2010

April 27, 2010 – Washington Lawyers for the Arts (WLA) announced today the appointment of Jennifer Krebs as its new Executive Director, effective immediately. Jennifer replaces Cal Kinnear, who announced his retirement earlier this year after nearly five years with WLA.

Jennifer was most recently an associate attorney in the Seattle office of Garvey Schubert Barer. She also held positions as the communications manager for the City of Enumclaw and executive director of Puget Sound Access. In addition, Jennifer served for four years on the Enumclaw City Council. Jennifer holds a bachelor's degree from UCLA, a master's in anthropology from McGill University and a J.D. from University of Washington School of Law.

“Washington Lawyers for the Arts is very fortunate to have found an Executive Director with a background in nonprofit leadership and legal practice. Jennifer's passion for the arts and her legal savvy are great additions to the WLA organization. With Jennifer’s talent and leadership, we will be able to drive organizational growth to better serve artists throughout the State. Speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors, we are thrilled to start working with her,” said Ingrid Mattson, Chair of the Board.

As part of its continuing mission to serve Washington artists, WLA is excited to introduce a number of new initiatives in 2010, including a lawyer referral service for artists and a blog, which will go live by this summer. Jennifer says, “The Board and Cal have done a great job of providing the high quality services that have given WLA such an exceptional reputation. I look forward to helping WLA expand its programs to make legal resources accessible to even more artists and arts organizations.”

The board thanks Cal for his many years of dedicated service to WLA, and wishes him well in retirement.

Lofty Dreams and Solid Schemes
Was a Roaring Success!

On November 12, WLA held its annual entertainment/fundraiser at the Columbia City Theater. Many friends old and new showed up for Lofty Dreams & Solid Schemes which proved an entertaining, aerial evening, and a solid success. We were treated to music by Miss Rose & Her Rhythm Percolators, a wonderful variety of aerial acts featuring Tamara the Trapeze Lady, Kimberly Hardy, Jenn Quattrocchi, Jon McClintock, Lauren Kehl, and the juggling of Nickoli Pirak. We ate (pizza and salad provided by next-door Tutta Bella) and drank, talked and laughed. And we carried off a highly successful auction to help with WLA’s operating budget, ensuring that we will be able to offer more to the art community in the coming year.

A huge thank-you to our very generous sponsors, Law Office of Michael N. White, Umpqua Bank and Merchant & Gould, PC.

Thanks to everyone who donated items for our auction.

Thanks to all our performers who performed for "a song":

And thanks to John Cornicello for taking the wonderful aerial action photos of our attendees on the trapeze! (you can find him at: http://www.johncornicello.com)
